Stop your wandering mind with sex

So studies suggest that negativity and depression are inextricably linked to a wandering mind… and I would wager that artists' minds wander more than most...

This may add some insight into an older post Must an artist suffer for his or her workInterestingly, this study also states that a wandering mind DOES 'underlie invention'. Yes, daydreaming is an essential part of my creative process and admittedly, this is a precarious line to walk as an artist. To be a productive artist a vivid imagination must be balanced equally with self-discipline, work ethic, and motivation.

Stop the press!

However, the research article explains there is a quick and easy solution to the problems we artists must face every day (well, hopefully not TOO quick and easy). It was identified that the mind wandered the most during grooming procedures such as brushing one’s teeth; yet there was one activity that could stop one's consciousness dead in it’s tracks. It seems if you would prefer your safari-loving mind to ease out of those comfy, old hiking boots, put down its well used, gnarled, walking stick and settle into that big, comfy, La-Z-Boy for a little bit of NOW time, all one has to do is have sex.

Genius! It’s brilliant and enlightening research like this that puts the world into place so effortlessly for me. The stars have aligned, the heavens opened, the angels’ trumpets are blaring, and all of life's little mysteries now make sense.

... the only problem is, I’m in my studio, paint brushes at the ready, fresh paint on the palette, and all I can do is think about sex.
